Clinton Historical Society I have some 19th Century documents (starting in 1865/66) and early 20th century, books and letters from the family of H Taintor of Killingworth (?). From the documents it seems he purchased the Killingwoth Mfg Co. on December 16, 1865 for $20,203. There are seveal "day books" of the sales recorded by that company. It seem H (I do not know his given name) had some sons. One of them, Charles (C H Taintor) went on to be a Congregational Minister. We have lectures notes he took in 1875/76... and some bound books on the subject from the period. The most exciting writing in the collection is a letter that Charley wrote to his mother on April 2, 1887. It is somewhat motheaten, but is perfectly readable. It is very touching. Charles at the time was perhaps the 'Executive Director' of the American Congregational Union office in Chicage. There is also a telegram sent on March 19, 1901 from C. H. Taintor to his wife, Mrs. C. H. Taintor, c/o Train No. 4, Sardis, Miss. It notes that she is, "En route from New Orleans, on Ill Cent (Illinois Central) Train No.4. His message is, "Detained will meet you in Chicago". That's it! Please contact me and let's make an arrangement fo ryou to see thisstuff. Thanks Marty
