The “ancient burial ground” that we today call Cypress Cemetery was first laid out by Lion Gardiner at the same time as the first English settlement in 1635.

Beneath its hallowed ground lies the story of prominent
founders and families of Saybrook, the Lady Fenwick marker, veterans of the American Revolution, Civil War soldiers, slaves, Native American sites, early ministers, and others.

The tour will be conducted, light rain or shine, and
participants are advised to wear comfortable shoes. The cost is $5 per person with children under 16 accompanied by a parent admitted free. For further information, contact the Old Saybrook Historical Society at 860-395-1635.
