Willie Fritz Wins Re-Election

First Selectman Willie Fritz won re-election Tuesday, garnering a total of 1,833 votes, according to unofficial results announced at town hall Tuesday night.

Republican challenger Phil Sengle won 1,224 votes and Clinton First challenger for the First Selectmen's seat Vincent Cimino won 844 votes.

The following are some additional unofficial results announced Tuesday. Clinton Town Clerk Karen Marsden said she was going to wait until Wednesday to make the results of several races official, so that minority representation rules and the close count rule could be applied properly.

Candidates who appear to have won their seats are marked with an asterisk. As with vote totals and other details, the winning candidates are preliminary until confirmed by the town clerk Wednesday.

Earlier story:

Voters were showing up at a steady clip Tuesday, with voter turnout on pace to equal or exceed the last municipal election two years ago, according to moderators at Town Hall, where voting was taking place in the Green Room.

In the parking lot, representatives of the two major parties, along with the third party running candidates, mingled with each other and guests under tents in the afternoon, which was beautiful and sunny. All three candidates for First Selectman, incumbent Democrat Willie Fritz, along with challengers Phil Sengle, a Republican, and Vincent Cimino, from the Clinton First Party, were visiting with supporters and other candidates on Tuesday afternoon in the parking lot of the town hall.

Editor's Note: Ray Moore's results were inadvertently omitted from the reports of the final results. That has been corrected. Apologies to Mr. Moore.
