What Changes Would You Suggest To The Charter Revision Committee?

There's an upcoming Public Hearing on March 7, but add your two cents now and Patch will forward all suggestions to the committee.

The newly-formed Charter Revision Committee has met two times (Feb. 16 and Feb. 22) and will hold a public hearing on Wednesday March 7 at 7pm at Andrews Memorial Town Hall.

The public hearing will be one of at least two public hearings on the subject. The goal is to gain input from the public as to what they would like to see changed, revised, added to or deleted from the town charter which is the town's written form of government.

A copy of the town charter is available for viewing on the town's website.

Because the committee's regular meetings are not for public input, they will hold the public hearings.

What would you like to see changed to the town charter?  Longer term limits, shorter term limits, more people on a commission or board? What about rules regarding poor attendance or ethics violations?

The committee has already discussed the fact that looking at a town manager form of government is not feasible at this time due to the short time limits.

Any changes to the charter must be presented to the Board of Selectmen for their review.  They will hold their own Public Hearing. Any written changes that the selectmen wish to include on the ballot November 6 need to be in the town clerk's hands by September 13.
