We've assembled a weekly calendar of kid-friendly activities and new places to try out with children. Each week, we'll give you the info on the best family activities or events for the week.

You're time-pressed enough, so we're happy to do the research and find the best things to do and places to go, both locally and within reasonable striking distance.

Look for the kids’ planner each Wednesday, and help us build the planner with your own suggestions and tips — just add them to the comment box. Even if you disagree with our picks, let us know. We want to hear from you!

So pick and choose from events such as Interactive Shakespeare, Back to School Scavenger Hunt and Teddy Bear Fest. Enjoy!

 

FAMILY BEST BETS OF THE WEEK

 

• Interactive Shakespeare

Where/When: HCH Library in Clinton Thursday, August 18th at 6pm

Why Go:  Welcome the opportunity to be a part of a Clinton first! Kidz Konnection is putting on an interactive educational program on Shakespeare. The 1-hour event will be held in the butterfly garden at the library. Kidz Konnection is known for putting on amazing performances that get kids excited about theatre! Reservations required. Please call the library at (860) 669-2342.

Pricing: Free

 

• Hot Summer Fun at Mohegan Sun

Where/When: Every Wednesday at Mohegan Sun (Uncasville) 6pm-10pm.

Why Go: Experience an amazing display of fireworks every Wednesday as well as music produced by live bands and a DJ. Remember to bring your lawn chairs or a blanket to sit on.

Pricing: Admission is free. Food is available from multiple vendors for a small fee.

 

• Teddy Bear Fest

Where/When: Beardsley Zoo in Bridgeport Saturday, August 20th from 12-3pm

Why Go: Celebrate Bear Awareness at the zoo! On Saturday, children will enjoy crafts and stories focused on facts about real bears. Children should bring their own teddy bear to the zoo on this special day!

Pricing: FREE admission for children under age 12 who bring their teddy bear to the “Teddy Bear Clinic” and are accompanied by a paying adult.

 

• Class Clown

Where/When: Ivoryton Playhouse, Fridays at 11am

Why Go: Hartford Children’s Theater presents Class Clown based on the book by Johanna Hurwitz. Watch Lucas play out all his fourth grade shenanigans until one day when a note gets sent home...

Pricing: All tickets $12.00 available in advance or on the door on the day

 

• Back to School Scavenger Hunt

Where/When:  Tanger Outlets, Westbrook. Sunday, August 21st at 12pm

Why Go: Meet in front of the sailboat in the courtyard. We were 20 minutes late last year and missed out on the goodies! At the sailboat, each child will receive a backpack with a scavenger hunt list. From there students must follow the list from store to store to get FREE school supplies. The kids have a great time and parents get to eye some great clothes and sales for the back to school season. Fantastic way to kick off Tax Free Week!!!

The contractor has finished installing the new drainage crossings to handle the storm water on theRead More road surface. We are waiting for the paving contractor to start reclaiming and milling the road in preperation for new asphalt. The catchbasin tops will be installed just prior to repaving when the milling and reclaiming work is completed.
