People Speak Out About Friendly's Closing [With Poll]

Patch readers have varying opinions on the news that the Clinton restaurant closed: they wish the employees well, have fond memories, and thought it needed a major facelift.

If you hadn't heard, the Friendly's restaurant in . As of late last night.

There is not an official "closed" sign hanging on the door, but rather a notice that asks customers to visit their other restaurant in West Haven.

In October, the company and planned to close restaurants. , among others, was not immediately mentioned as one that would be slated for closure.

Along with Clinton, restaurants in Guilford, Branford, Wallingford and North Haven have closed.

In Clinton, a few employees were seen carrying boxes from the store to waiting vans and trucks.

Many people have commented that they are sorry to see the long-time restaurant go. Some had fond childhood memories of eating meals there. A few never liked the place. Here's the latest from the Clinton Patch's Facebook page:

Kelly Kniffin-Prevost said, "Very sad.. Many happy memories there.. My mom would bring me to work with her there when they wore the checkered uniforms back In the day. Lol. I liked to bring my children there as an adult.. They are going to be sad as well. The wait time and service was problematic but the food was always good.. It just doesn't seem right that there will no longer be a Friendly's here... :

Jenny Townsend said "she's sorry to see another business close in town."

Eileen Smith said she and her daughter loved to go there for salads.

Pete Greenhouse said "Clinton and Branford were not on the list to be closed. Maybe they are doing what McDonalds did and closing some while giving a facelift to others. That place was pretty run down and could use it."

Amanda Larsen said, "just like Pizza Hut they went down hill with food and service."

Michael Busky said, "Best place to go during my childhood life!!! Too bad there are way too many businesses built in the town of Clinton such as Clinton Outlet, etc. Wish to see that the town of Clinton to stay small instead making the town into an industrial town like the town of Branford or East Haven!!"

Ricky Buffington said, "Friendly's caused their own demise. That food was always so so and the service was horrible. Maybe someone who wants to stay in business will open up in the location and do great. Hopefully not another pharmacy or liquor store."

Val DaCosta hopes people stay in town to eat and that "their old customers discover other area eateries such as Coffee Break, Copper Skillet and Edds & Cohen

Heidi Holmes said she has so many memories of eating there as a child. Sad news to hear.

Pat Bousquet said "my mom and I had many good times there."
