Accomplishments: Kate is a budding and talented reporter and writer who has published two stories in the Clinton Patch! Her first article, , was published March 21 and is available to view on the Clinton Patch by a search. In that article, Kate explains how she organized a book drive at her school and how the school collected more than 1,000 books for the Read To Grow organization. The books will be distributed to needy kids in Connecticut.

Here's an excerpt from that article: Do you ever get that feeling after you’ve read an amazing book? The feeling you can’t put into words? It’s a mix of joy, sorrow, and generosity. You are happy because you finished it, but disappointed because the story’s over, finished, done.

Her second article, titled , is published today, April 12. In this article she writes about how just one penny can make a difference in the life of someone suffering with cancer. She explains how Pennies for Patients is a nation-wide fundraiser created by the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in 1995. Schools across the country including the Eliot School encourage students to bring in their spare change to donate it to the cause.

Here's an excerpt from that article: A penny. Just a plain, simple, copper penny. It’s worthless, not-needed, a nuisance. You can’t buy anything with just one penny, so it just sits alone and dejected, in the bottom of a piggy-bank. People just think that pennies are worthless, but have you ever thought about the worth of thousands of pennies combined? Probably not.

Key to Awesomeness:  Kate is a conscientious writer who does her research, uses creativity to tell a story, gets all her facts correct and hands in her work on-time! That's awesomeness in my book!
