She saved her store and her owner by chasing an armed gunman out the door.

Ginger, the hero mixed-breed of Glenwood Wine & Spirits Outlet, received the "Stubby" award from the First Company Governor's Foot Guard at their dog and award show Feb. 20. The award is named after the original "Stubby" - a brave canine member of the 1917 102nd Infantry who saved his men from a gas attack.

Just before closing time on Jan. 14, a man dressed head-to-toe in all black including a black ski mask and carrying a gun, walked into the liquor store at 140 Killingworth Turnpike.

“She came out behind the back of the store and chased the man out of the store,” said Ann Marie Cewe, who along with her husband Dan own the store and Ginger.

What could have been a horrible tragedy turned into relief and lots of extra attention from the media and the Governor's Foot Guard for their dog.

The masked gunman, after being chased from the store by a dog, escaped via a waiting vehicle. Anyone with information on this incident is urged to call the Clinton Police Department at 860-669-0451.
