Go Green Clinton! Eco-Awareness

A 30-Day "Go Green" Initiative To Honor Earth Day This Month

April 22 is Earth Day, as it has been for over 40 years. But why limit it to just one day? Join us here on Katrina’s Corner throughout the month of April for 30 Days of Green--each day a new environmentally-friendly tip!

Do you consider yourself  “eco-conscious?” Are you curious about “going green?” Or do you want to live more eco-friendly but just don’t know where to begin?

What if you took small steps and simple actions to make your life, and in turn, all of our lives, a little greener?

One of the first steps you can take is to keep an open mind. Start small. Maintain awareness.

Think about the products you use, the waste you create--do you really know of what those products are made? Do you really know where that waste goes? Do you really know what you’re eating, drinking, breathing, smelling, or touching on a daily basis?

Do you ever think about where household energy comes from or how it’s produced? Have you given thought to how we fuel our automobiles, lawnmowers, or airplanes? Do you ponder the practices of large companies and their concern, or lack thereof, for our health and for the environment?

How will your decisions today impact the lives of your children, your grandchildren, and subsequent generations? In fact, how will your decisions as humans impact our future world--our ecosystems, natural resources, and all living things?

Thinking about these things can feel overwhelming. They may make you feel powerless. You might not understand or even care (right now). You might think you have to get involved in politics or become an eco-activist. Or you might feel like one person can’t make much of a difference.

Well, you can.

But remember the first step: keep an open mind. Start simply by initiating an eco-awareness in your life. (Along similar lines, check out my on Patch about being conscious of how much product you use on a daily basis.)

And in 30 days, you might just end up on the other side--where it’s greener!
