Best Bets Of The Week: Haunted Graveyard, Renaissance Faire, Corn Maze!

We've assembled a weekly calendar of kid-friendly activities and new places to try out with children. Each week, we'll give you the info on the best family activities or events for the week.

You're time-pressed enough, so we're happy to do the research and find the best things to do and places to go, both locally and within reasonable striking distance.

FAMILY BEST BETS OF THE WEEK

Corn Maze

Where/When: Sat. & Sun. 10am - 6pm  Ticket sales closes at 5:30pm, Lyman Orchards 32 Reeds Gap Road, Middlefield

Why Go: This year the corn maze is honoring our country by taking form of both the American eagle and the American flag. It takes approximately 30-60 minutes to make it through the maze.

Pricing: Children, ages 4 yrs - 12 yrs: $5.00

Adults, ages 13 yrs and up: $10.00  

Children ages 3 yrs and under: Free Admission

 

• Hammonasset Festival

Where/When: Saturday and Sunday from 10-5pm at Hammonasset State Park

Why Go: An educational Native American event with exotic animals, reptiles and music!

Pricing: Admission is only $5/person. Children 10 and under are free

 

• Haunted Graveyard          

Where/When: At Lake Compounce in Bristol from dusk to midnight this weekend!

Why Go: Ready for Halloween??? Well get ready because it’s that time again! Be prepared to scream until you lose your voice!

Pricing:

• Best Beginnings Fair

Where/When: Saturday 9:30am to noon at cafeteria

Why Go:  Get registered with Best Beginnings and start receiving informational literature and upcoming events and programs. Kids will enjoy face painting, sand tables, an obstacle course and a healthy snack. And of course, there will be coffee and refreshments for the adults!

Pricing: Free! A small food or baby donation would be appreciated.

 

• The Connecticut Renaissance Faire

Where/When: Saturday and Sunday from 11am-6pm at the Lions Fairgrounds on Gilead Street in Hebron

Why Go:  This is New England’s largest medieval marketplace. Enjoy foods from turkey legs to bread bowls. Costumes are encouraged but not required. Check out their website for more details.

Pricing: Adults- $16 Children- $10
