CTA Tries Again And Again To Force Special Town Meeting

Goal is to overturn or significantly reduce the cost of the new Morgan School building project referendum.

The Clinton Taxpayers Association (CTA) is hardly giving up after their was cancelled by the Clinton First Selectman following a .

First Selectman Willie Fritz explained why the meeting was cancelled, saying "first, the Board of Selectmen need to vote to hold a special town meeting and that was never done; second, a special town meeting can only be held for several reasons (to approve or deny a real estate lease for less than three years was one example) and the CTA's petition did not qualify as one of the reasons; and third, the CTA petition is not valid."

The CTA tried again on June 27 to have notice of a Special Town Meeting added to the Board of Selectmen's meeting and it was shot down several times in a vote of three to two.

Pamela Fritz, president of the CTA (no relation to the first selectman) said that "the first selectman and Board of Selectmen have repeatedly violated the Clinton Town Charter."

In her statement at the selectmen's meeting, Pamela Fritz gave a history of the CTA's recent actions following an

In a written statement supplied to Patch and read in person at the meeting, Pamela Fritz had this to say: "It is the opinion of the CTA that the First Selectman knowingly and purposefully subverted and violated the legal process provided in the Town Charter. All members of the Board of Selectmen are sworn to uphold our town charter. If the other members of the Board of Selectmen acquiesce in these actions, they are in violation of the Charter as well."

She went on to say that "this chain of events has denied the citizens of Clinton their right of petition under the Town Charter."

"The CTA represents those thousands of Clinton taxpayers who have been affected by these violations of our Town Charter. We have been and will continue to lead the fight for their rights," said Pamela Fritz.

To conclude, Pamela Fritz said that the "CTA Board of Directors will be meeting shortly with our legal counsel to sort through every legal alternative. The CTA is a strong, growing organization with the talent and resources to pursue restoring the rule of law through our Town Charter. The CTA will not give up until we do!"
