Clinton Rotary Club Student Of The Month Is Danielle Joyce

Never One To Take Credit Or The Limelight, Danielle Just Gets The Work Done

Danielle Joyce, Clinton Rotary Club Student of the Month, was honored recently at a special awards dinner at the Clinton Country Club. Joined by her parents, Dan and Mary Joyce, she was recognized for many things - one of which was being the youngest recipient of the award.

"We have never had a sophomore win the Rotary Student of the Month award," said Clinton Rotary president-elect Maria Varga. "Congratulations!"

A student at The Morgan School, Danielle was nominated for the award by one of her teachers, Joanne Nunan, of the Family and Consumer Sciences department.

Danielle has been involved in a school project called Art from the Heart for two years. Volunteers in the program choose a recipient and redecorate their bedroom at their home. There's a lot of planning and coordination involved in the redecoration.

The recipient of the new bedroom is a young girl or boy who is fighting cancer.

Danielle knows a bit about fighting the disease since she's been there.

"I am a cancer survivor," she says proudly.

"She's my hero," says her mother, Mary.

"She's made the best of a difficult situation," says her father, Dan.

In addition to her school work and Art from the Heart work, Danielle works at Yale and volunteers at many cancer patient and survivor camps. She's a volunteer for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and is a personal friend of WTNH weatherman Dr. Mel, also a cancer survivor.

In addition, Danielle and teacher Joanne Nunan were recently featured on the WTNH daytime show "Style."

Please congratulate Danielle when you see her around town.
