All's Quiet On The Clinton Storm Front

Town Hall, Library, Most Shops Are Open - But Sidewalks, Parking Lots And Walkways Are Slippery

Don’t let the rain fool you – the roads are still slippery and the sidewalks, walkways and parking lots are treacherous. The rain and slush are hiding an underlayer of ice on some surfaces.

Although most shops, Clinton Crossing, Town Hall, and the library, for example are open, it's pretty quiet this morning in Clinton.

The schools are closed for a second day due to yesterday’s MLK holiday and today’s snow and ice.

“The town’s Department of Works has done a good job on the roads, but the decision to close schools was due mainly to the very short time frame available to clear back roads, the sidewalks and parking lots,” said First Selectman William “Willie” Fritz.

Because the schools are closed, the Park & Recreation Department will not hold any activities this afternoon or tonight.

The Estuary Council, which serves a Monday through Friday lunch for seniors at town hall and is usually cooking up a storm right now in the town hall kitchen, is closed today.

Town hall is open as usual, said First Selectman William “Willie” Fritz.

The Henry Carter Hull Library is open, said library director Maribeth Breen, who warned patrons to drive slowly and be careful of the slippery conditions of the parking lot.

The roads are pretty barren of vehicles, which is a good thing, said Pete Neff, director of the towns Department of Public Works.

“If you don’t have to be on the roads…,” Neff echoed.

His crew plowed, sanded and salted all night long and will be heading out again in a few hours.
