A Labor Day Message From The First Selectman

99 Percent Of Clinton Power Restored

A message from Clinton First Selectman Willie Fritz:

I hoped you enjoyed your Labor Day. I did because I was able to take a hot shower at home for the first time in a week.

As of last report there are less than a dozen residences without power in Clinton. Last night the crews had restored 99 percent and were working on single issues. I can’t thank the crews enough and Andy Grant from Western Mass Electric who ran the show in town. Chris Gibson our CL&P liaison was wonderful as far as keeping me informed and communicating with our residents.

In spite of our usual Monday morning quarterbacks, who have no clue what they are talking about and hopefully will crawl back under their rocks, our town is in better shape than all of our neighbors and it is because of the planning and proactive approach we took. CL&P said other towns did not respond to the level which we did with clearing and debris removal and that allowed them to get power on sooner.

I had said last Monday it would be a week, and it was a week. No crystal ball just common sense. No other area towns fed people on two separate occasions, made calls to the radio stations or picked up debris. We are special in Clinton. Let’s not forget it.

Cleanup will continue this week and next week, if necessary. A second round will follow, please tell people to put branches at the curb not in the road and we will get it.

We will have the FEMA intake person here, at town hall, again tomorrow and Thursday for residential damage reporting.

Thanks for your patience, thanks to our DPW, Fire and Police and for all the volunteers. Wasn’t it great to see hundreds of kids running around playing football, soccer and baseball again!!! Great job.

Willie
