Connecticut Water Company Recognized For Construction Safety

Receives Construction Safety Award Seven Years In A Row

The following is from the Connecticut Water Company headquarters in Clinton:

The Connecticut Construction Industries Association’s (CCIA) recognized the Connecticut Water Company (CWC) with its 2010 Safety Recognition Award. Companies who receive the award demonstrate they have a solid construction safety and health program.

CCIA evaluated Connecticut Water in 17 safety categories, including management involvement, employee training, safety hazard analysis, noncompliance and correction of violations.

Terry O’Neill, CWC’s vice president of Service Delivery, commented on the award, stating that “Safeguard the health and well being of our people is one of our core values, which takes a consistent, determined effort, especially when working around construction sites or handling potentially hazardous chemicals.” This is the seventh consecutive year that Connecticut Water has received the award.

Mr. O’Neill added that customers benefit from a strong safety program as well. “A safety first culture reduces loss time accidents and helps to keep the overall costs of the business down – everyone benefits.”

The CCIA award criteria also can serve as a guideline to either help start or improve an existing safety program. Connecticut Water has had a formal safety program for more than 25 years and has more than 20 employees who serve on a cross functional safety committee that is focused on safety issues affecting all areas of the company.
