Connecticut Job Growth Rosy in April

The jobs numbers from last month were good, but the state needs to do better overall, economists say.

Connecticut grew 6,300 jobs last month, a number that puts it on track for improved job growth overall this year.

So far this year the state has added 8,600 new private and public jobs, more than all the jobs that were added in Connecticut in 2012, according to the blog Climbing Back.

Peter Gioia, an economist with the Connecticut Business and Industry Association, told the blog that while April's numbers were good, he's remaining cautiously optimistic about the state's economic comeback.

“Let me see four or five of these in a row,” Gioia told the blog. "We're not out of the woods yet."

Despite the jobs gains in April Connecticut's unemployment rate remained at 8 percent, lagging behind the country's average unemployment rate of 7.5 percent.
