Cashman's Hardware to Close August 23

After a lawsuit filed by the town, Jeff Cashman's financial burden that he spoke of earlier this year has now resulted in the impending closing of Cashman's Hardware store on August 23, according to his comments on Patch.

After running and operating Cashman's Hardware store for 10 years in Clinton, Jeff Cashman has announced it's closing. Marked in red lettering on the side of his store, a message reads: "Thanks for 50 years of being here. 50% off. Store Closing 8/23."

Cashman had spoke earlier this year to Patch about the possibility of losing the store due to an ongoing legal battle with the town of Clinton over his farm on River road, he says.

“It’s heart-wrenching for me, for my wife too,” Cashman told Patch in late April as he awaited a court date. “I want to protect my family, I don’t want them to go through this. I want to provide for them. I’m just a hardworking guy, I’m not in business to make millions. We opened our doors to make a difference.”

Now, almost four months later, as he feared, Cashman’s financial burden due to the lawsuit filed by the town has given him no other choice but to close his business, according to his posting on Patch.

Cashman could not be reached for a direct quote regarding the matter, but he did post the following comment on Patch on August 12 in regards to the closing in response to a Madison's resident's post about the issue:

Jeff CashmanFor the Past 18 months Jeff Cashman an his family have been in a battle with the town of Clinton. The Zoning Enforcement officer Tom Lane, All other members of the commission Have attacked His Farm on River Road . Ask to see all the paper work involved, every document is available to show for 25 years in the town hall records this fact. Farms are working pieces of property with an agricultural intent.

The zoning Attorney Has spent 45 minutes according to his last bill presented and paid by the commission, MR CASHMAN OWNS A FARM. Thousands of dollars in legal fees and lost revenue, only wrapped up with one of the worst economy's, has forced the closing of the store..

My Question to the town is why is tom lane still working for the town when our police department has determined that he has falsified documents to cover his ignorant lies.. This loss of revenue to any person after being in business this long is devastating not only financially, but emotionally. The events to this issue have been documented and still to this day are in a legal battle with the Town of Clinton...
