What is the history of the business: It started out as Maxwell Therapeutic Massage at a different location on the other side of town. I moved to this current location in 2004. After a few years, I had expanded downstairs as well and felt I needed a name to group all the different things that were happening here. That's when it became Stone Temple Sanctuary and Stone Temple Institute, which now everyone seems to call it just "Stone Temple."
What do you offer: On the upper level at the Sanctuary, we offer therapeutic massage, Dr. Hauschka Facials, and some really nice, luxurious, body wraps. The lower level at the Institute, we have Yoga, Thai Chi, Modern Dance, Meditation Classes and some weekend workshops. It seems this is always evolving!
What makes Stone Temple Sanctuary unique: We are known for our therapeutic body work, especially Ashiatsu Oriental Bar Therapy where the therapist uses her feet to deliver the massage. It is described as "the deepest, most luxurious massage on the planet!" I love it sooo much I became the New England instructor in 2005. We offer classes about every other month for massage therapists. It is a nationally recognized but a very unique certified modality. We also are certified in Orthopedic massage, the Rossiter System, Healing Stone massage, and Pregnancy massage, just to name a few.
What is particularly "in" right now: Definitely the Ashiatsu Oriental Bar Therapy! This is like no other massage. If you crave deep tissue work, this is the bomb! Instead of feeling like you got beat up after a deep massage with elbows and thumbs, you feel relaxed, have an increased range of movement and usually reduced pain. It is not for everyone, but those who like deep...this is for them.
What do you like best about town: I love the locals! Clinton has its own flavor. Even in the summer when the population swells, the locals are so genuine. I love the Clinton town docks accessibility to the water.
What do you like least about town: The traffic in the summertime!
Any personal thoughts you'd like to share: I am about to celebrate our tenth year in business and look forward to 10 more! I also like to try to hire local massage therapists. There are five massage therapists working here with a variety of skills and hours available.
