Business Profile: Steward's Ace Hardware

Where did you grow up and where do you live now: I grew up in Clinton and currently live in Old Saybrook where my wife grew up. We have been together since high school. 

How long has Steward's Ace Hardware been in business: We officially opened our doors on April 15, 2008. 

History of the business: I worked at Stevens Hardware as a teenager, worked at Saybrook Hardware in the late 90s. My wife and I wanted to bring a hardware store to Clinton and the shoreline residents that addressed the need for great selection, great pricing, great service and extended convenient hours. 

What do you offer: We offer almost everything except lumber and small engine repair. We have a wide selection of lighting fixtures, ceiling fans, Carhartt clothing, Pratt and Lampert paint, Weber grills, and automotive computer chip keys. 

What makes Steward's Ace Hardware unique: Our attention to detail, wide selection of products and our great customer service. 

What projects are particularly "in" right now: We are in the designing and creating a business-to-business division (commercial and industrial sales department) with outside sales. 

What do you like best about town: The people and the history. I just love the town.

What do you like least about town: Route 1 traffic in the summer. And, I don’t like that we have so many empty buildings in town and we keep building more store fronts.  We need to renovate what is empty and fill what we have now. 

Any personal thoughts you'd like to share? We would like to thank the residents of Clinton and the shoreline for their business and commitment to us, for making us the leading hardware store on the shoreline.
