Are you from Clinton?: Joy lived in East Haven for over 30 years. I have lived in Killingworth (12), Guilford (18) and Old Lyme (4). Joy also lives in Old Lyme.
How long has Snap Fitness been in business: We opened our business in Clinton on August 22, 2011.
History of the business: Snap Fitness, based in the Minneapolis suburb of Chanhassen, Minnesotta, is a fast-growing franchisor of compact, state-of-the-art 24/7 fitness centers worldwide.
We offer franchisees a proven, affordable business model that enables absentee ownership, and we provide members a fast, convenient and affordable workout alternative to oversized, overpriced and overcrowded health clubs.
Our facilities feature 24/7 access, cardio and strength-training equipment that set industry standards, value-added fitness services not available at comparable clubs and a safe, secure environment. Our progressive, member-friendly policies include the elimination of contracts (members pay month-to-month), the ability to freeze memberships for up to three months annually and freedom to use any Snap Fitness club in North America.
In 2009, Entrepreneur Magazine ranked us No. 1 "Best in Category" for fitness franchises, and the editors of Inc. Magazine placed us at No. 16 on its annual, "Inc. 500" list of privately owned businesses.
What do we offer: Your neighborhood gym. Friendly family-owned environment. Fast, convenient and affordable. Open 24/7/365.
What services are most in demand: Personal training and our Fitness on Demand room.
What trends have you noticed: More baby boomers are realizing that longevity without good health is not acceptable. We see more and more "older" people coming to the club to get fit.
What makes Snap Fitness of Clinton unique: It's central location. Owner/managers on site six days a week. Open 24/7. Private club with secured access and many security features. State of the art equipment in a clean, upscale environment. No clutter, no messy locker rooms. The Fitness on Demand room is the only one of its kind on the shoreline and included with basic memberships.
What do you like best about town: Great people. We have had an excellent working relationship with all town departments and have made many new friends.
What is your fondest memory of town: Meeting people at the Chamber of Commerce meetings.
Any personal thoughts you'd like to share: We looked at commercial property from Pawcatuck to North Branford before deciding on Clinton. It has been a good decision as the response from the local community has exceeded our expectations. Joy and I are both very interested in exercise and healthy eating - we walk the walk and talk the talk. We get great satisfaction out of seeing people who clearly need help walk through our doors and sign up. We are committed to helping them improve their health and life expectancy.
