Business Profile: Port Clinton Marina

140 Slips And Service Found On The Sound

While is busy readying for the season, Patch was able to get a few minutes with Roisin Mackey, who owns the facility with her husband Mike Mackey. Since the Mackeys took over the marina in 2001, the facility has grown from 104 slips to 140. This is no small task; the seven-year approval process included the Town, Army  Corp of Engineers, and the state Department of Environmental Protection.

How long have you lived in Clinton: We actually live in Old Lyme.

How long have you owned Port Clinton: We took over the marina in 2001.

History of the business: The year we took over there had been a major storm that winter and a lot of the docks were broken and in need of repair. It was quite the project after returning from Hong Kong with three young children.

What do you offer: We offer dockage, with floating docks, power and water to all docks. Nice friendly atmosphere, lots of good people.

What makes Port Clinton unique: I guess we differ from the bigger marinas in that people tend to get to know most of the people at the marina and it's more like a family atmosphere.

How will boating be different this summer considering the cost of fuel: Cost of fuel affects the way people use their boats so instead of doing a lot of day trips they may go on trips and stay over for a longer period, or else stay at the dock. We do get quite a few who come down in the evenings to sit and watch the sun go down.

What do you like best about town: I like Clinton because the people are easy to get along with.
