Business Profile: Clinton Child Care Service

The Third Word In Their Name May Be Care, But It Is Certainly The Number One Thing They Do

Patch interviewed Clinton Child Care Service's Executive Director Heather Hoadley and Program Coordinator Maria Hicks, two extremely dedicated and super busy women with all of those children (but unlike the woman in the shoe, Heather and Maria clearly do know what to do!).

How long have you lived in Clinton:   The Executive Director Heather Hoadley has lived in Clinton for six years.  The Program Coordinator Maria Hicks has lived in Clinton for 20 years.

How long has the Clinton Child Care Service been in business: Clinton Child Care Service was established in 1978.

History of the business: Clinton Child Care Service is a 501 ( c ) ( 3 ) non-profit corporation formed on August 26, 1978 by the Clinton Junior Women’s Club.  Club members were concerned about children going home from school to empty houses because parents were working.

Initially the program ran in the public school, but the custodial expense was much more than the program could afford.  An involved parent arranged collaboration with the local Congregational Church that had been the home of Clinton Child Care Service since January 1977.

Over time and because of demonstrated need and parent request, program offerings were expanded.

As the new non-profit became more stable, Clinton Junior Women’s Club gradually cut back its involvement until it was no longer needed.  Since the early 1980s Clinton Child Care Service has functioned as an independent entity governed by a volunteer Board of Directors comprised primarily of parents of children in the program.  The Board supervises and supports the Executive Director, who is responsible for all aspects of the programming, staffing and management of the operation.
