Business Profile: Chamard Vineyards

Patch Interviewed Dr. Jonathan M. Rothberg, Scientist, Entrepreneur and The Vineyard's Proprietor

Dr. Jonathan M. Rothberg has owned Chamard Vineyards since the fall of 2005, a property originally incorporated by the former Chairman and CEO of Tiffany & Co. Dr. Rothberg is combining his love of nature, his passion to predict and his interest in genetics to create fine wines.

Dr. Rothberg launched the Methuselah Project, sponsored by the Rothberg Institute, a nonprofit research organization based in Guilford. The project researches the genes responsible for extending healthy lives. He was the first person to map an individual person's genome and hopes to map 300 centenarians.

He and his family reside on the shoreline and enjoy weekends and holidays at the Vineyard.

How long has Chamard Vineyards been in business: 25 years

How did Chamard Vineyards get its name: It's a name to denote extreme quality.

What makes Chamard Vineyards unique: We are Connecticut's best vineyard and produce some of New England's best wines.
