Cuisine: Gourmet burgers, wings and hot dogs

Price range: $3-$14

Take out: This menu easily accommodates carry-out orders.

Kid-friendly: What child doesn’t like a burger or hot dog and fries, washed down with a thick milkshake? Jack Flaws, the owner and Culinary Institute of America-trained chef, keeps things simple for the kids but adds toppings galore to create more interesting eating for the parents.

Why you should go right now: The white and lime green dining room is minimalist in décor at best, but the prices are right and the food hits the spot. Purists can scarf down a plain Certified Angus beef burger – cooked either “red, pink or not pink,” the menu suggests – or go the gourmand’s route with the Wellington burger, a juicy patty topped with seared foie gras, grilled onions and crimini mushrooms. In between are combinations such as the California burger (grilled onions, guacamole, alfalfa sprouts and a squirt of jalapeno oil), Pepe la Pew (caramelized apples, smoked bacon and brie) or the Firecracker burger (crispy onions soaked in Tabasco with hot sauce mayo). Four dinner salads fill the bill for lighter fare, while the kitchen also dishes up “dirty” wings with hot sauce, sliders, hot dogs and, for side orders, four kinds of fries, onion rings and chips. Jack Rabbit’s closes at 7 on Fridays and 8 on Saturdays, but the kitchen also services the Rabbit Hole bar next door where the same menu is served until 9.
