Budget Referendum Numbers Incorrect

The results are the same: both budgets were defeated, but due to an error, the "no" votes on the education budget were announced incorrectly at the close of voting May 8.

Due to a mis-read from the automated vote counter tape, the results of the May 8 Budget Referendum vote were read incorrectly on one item, the "no" votes for the school budget.

The mis-read did not change the outcome of the vote.

The correct numbers are:

Education Budget:
yes votes: 1,122
no votes: 1,512 is the correct number  (this number was announced last night as 1,212 votes)
a difference of 390 votes

Town Budget: these numbers have not changed
yes votes: 1,137
no votes: 1,510
a difference of 373 votes

Both budgets were rejected by voters.  A public hearing on a decreased proposed budget is scheduled for May 15, 7pm at Clinton Town Hall.  A second referendum vote is scheduled for May 22, 6am to 8pm at town hall.
