Body Recovered in Long Island Sound

No positive identification yet but it may be the Massachusetts fisherman who went overboard Sunday night.

The body of the missing Massachusetts fisherman who fell off a boat earlier this week may have been found, Clinton police said.

Clinton police received a 911 call at 9:30 Thursday morning from a recreational boater in Long Island Sound reporting they had discovered a body floating in the water.

Clinton Police and Fire personnel responded to the location, approximately one half mile south of the Clinton channel.

Police and Fire personnel transported the body to the Clinton Town Marina. The body was turned over to personnel from the Office of the Chief State Medical Examiner’s office and was transported to Farmington for an autopsy and for identification purposes.

The body is believed to be that of a middle aged white male. The State of Connecticut ECON Police (DEEP) is the lead investigating law enforcement agency.

Last Sunday, Clinton and other town first responders were involved in a search for Yuri Kirpichev, 51, of West Springfield, Mass., who was reported to have fallen overboard into the Connecticut River after attempting to retrieve his fishing pole that had fallen into the water.  There were three other people on the boat with Kirpichev. They were safely brought to shore by emergency personnel.
