Great Escape: Take a Dance Class!

Hey Moms, Take Some Time Out of Your Busy Schedule and Learn to Dance

Any fan (or closet fan) of Dancing with the Stars has at one point or another admired those svelte moves the professionals have on the dance floor. And the sparkly, barely-there costumes, obviously. But in all seriousness, why not get out there and give ballroom dancing a shot? Surely moms and dads can shake it, too!

So get on out there! There are plenty of local dance schools offering classes in all sorts of ballroom dance. Grab a couple of girlfriends and laugh at your fancy moves in the mirror. Or, better yet, bring your man along!

Ballroom Dancin’ Fools in Guilford offers Salsa classes every Thursday at 7 p.m. On Tuesdays this month they also have Swing and Foxtrot classes at 7 p.m. at $10 per class.

Over in Branford, Let’s Dance in Rhythm holds Argentine Tango class from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on Sundays. And don’t worry single ladies—or wives with shy husbands—partners are not necessary! Cost is $10 per class.

If those classes don’t fit your busy mom schedule, take a look at classes at community centers and other dance schools—there’s Gunnar Johnson Select School of Dancing in Madison or Audrey Ward School of Dance in Westbrook.

And yes, it’s probably OK to wear something more casual than a sequined mini-dress for your first class—unless you’re a brave soul.
