Get Out: Five Great Things To Do This Weekend

Because It's No Fun To Stay Home All Weekend

Yikes, it’s August already! When did that happen? There’s just no time for dilly-dallying this weekend because we have plenty of events to keep you busy. So get up, get movin’ and have yourself a jam-packed weekend of fun!

1. 

WHERE/WHEN: Shows are Wednesday through Sunday on the Guilford Green at 7:30 p.m.

WHY GO: Grab some blankets and lawn chairs for a night of Shakespearean fun!

2. 

WHERE/WHEN: Saturday, August 6 from 10am to 10pm at the Ethel Peters Recreational Complex (137 Glenwood Road) in Clinton

WHY GO: Come out and support Zack Bernier, a recent Morgan School graduate who is paralyzed from a hiking accident and fall.

PRICING: Admission to the 16-band and open mic benefit is $15 on Saturday, or $10 in advance.  Food vendors will be selling beverages, snacks, lunch and dinner items.

WHERE/WHEN: Show runs Aug. 4 to 28 at the Norma Terris Theater in Chester.

WHY GO: Parents will love this contemporary Goodspeed musical! Take note—the show has some strong language, so think twice before bringing kids under 13.

PRICING: Tickets are $45.50 each.

4. 

WHERE/WHEN: Thursday through Sunday at Martin Park in East Hartford.

WHY GO: Bluegrass, bluegrass, bluegrass! Plus, check out workshops with the artists, activities for kids and band and songwriting competitions.

PRICING: Passes can be purchased at the gate. Adult rates are $17 for Thursday, $43 Friday or Saturday, $16 for Sunday. Full ticket details are available here.

5. 

WHERE/WHEN: Friday through Sunday at the Augur Farm, 298 Forest Rd. (Rt. 22) North Branford.

WHY GO: Rides, car show, live entertainment, 5K race, fireworks, tractor pull and Big Shot—The Ultimate Billy Joel Experience—on Sunday at 4:30 p.m.

PRICING: Admission is free. On-site parking is $5 but space is limited. Free shuttle buses run to Stanley T. Williams School and North Branford Intermediate School.

6. CONCERTS AT THE KATE

WHERE/WHEN: This weekend at The Kate in Old Saybrook, enjoy chamber music on Friday at 8 p.m. with the Chestnut Hill Concerts, “edu-tainment” with Steve Elci & Friends at 1 p.m. on Saturday,Peter Yarrow of Peter, Paul & Mary on Saturday at 8 p.m. and Mystic’s indie band, Barefoot Truth, on Sunday at 7 p.m.

WHY GO: There’s a little something for every music lover!

PRICING: Chestnut Hill Concert tickets are $25 to $30 each; Steve Elci tickets are $5 for kids and $8 for adults; Peter Yarrow tickets are $40 each; Barefoot Truth tickets are $20 to $35.
