Frightfully Fun Halloween Happenings

We want to see photos of your Halloween fun--submit them to Patch!

Even if kicking back with a big bowl of candy corn and handing out Twix bars to the trick-or-treaters sounds like an ideal Halloween, we have some other ideas for you to consider. Before the hordes of ghosts, vampires and mini Charlie Sheen look-a-likes show up on your doorstep, we want you and your family to have some Halloween fun of your own! While carving pumpkins and munching on caramel apples at home are seasonal must-haves, we want you to hit the town for a little ghoulish excitement, too. Check out our list of local Halloween happenings:

  • Kids in grades 4 to 8 will decorate the windows of the Main Street business from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 22. Be sure to stroll Main Street to check out the festive windows!

  • This year’s theme is ‘Books Come Alive!’ Event is Saturday, Oct. 22 at 4 p.m. and tickets are $5 at the door.

  • Stop by any CVS on Sunday, Oct. 23 during regular store hours! Kids in costume will receive a free Halloween gift pack with any purchase.

  • Leave the kids home! Party at Chamard Vineyards on Saturday, Oct. 29 from 7 p.m. to midnight. Tickets are $25 per person.

 

NEARBY:

HOLIDAZE: THE REAL STORY OF HALLOWEEN, THANKSGIVING AND CHRISTMAS

  • Visit the Henry Whitfield Museum through the end of October and check out the Holidaze exhibit! It’s included in museum admission and open Wednesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

  • Kids in grades 1 to 3 are invited to the Scranton Library on Friday, Oct. 21 at 4:30 for some Halloween cupcake decorating fun with Joanna Sicilian! Registration is required for this event.

  • Stop by Bishop’s Orchards for some scarecrow making, face painting, glitter tattoos and cupcakes! Cost is $12 per scarecrow or $20 for two. Open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 22 and 23 and the following weekend on Oct. 29 and 30.

  • Hey parents—bring your kids, pets, strollers and wagons and march in the parade! Meet behind R.J. Julia at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 22.

  • Jack-O-Lanterns galore! Drop off your best carved or painted pumpkins at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 22 at the Madison Town Green and Grand Illumination will be at 6:30 p.m.

  • While you’re on the Madison Town Green, meet some spooky souls along the Madison Historical Society’s Ghost Walk! Tours run from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22.

  • If you find some time between the Pumpkin Blaze and Ghost Walk, don’t miss the other festive fun happening on the Madison Town Green! There will be luminaries, tug-of-war, three-legged races and more from 4 to 6:15 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 22.

  • Don’t miss Steve Elci at the Florence Griswold Museum! He’ll perform at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 22.

  • Take a stroll through the Haunted Mansion on Saturday, Oct. 22 from 7 to 10 p.m. Tickets are $5 per person or $20 for a family of five.

  • Storyteller Gerry Parent will visit the library with some spooky tales to tell! Kids 5 and up are invited to the event on Friday, Oct. 28 at 4 p.m.

  • Support the Guilford Art Center! Attend their 21-plus costume party on Saturday, Oct. 29 from 7 to 11 p.m.

  • Bring the kids to R.J. Julia on Sunday, Oct. 30 from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Tickets are $5 each and can be used toward a future children’s book purchase.

  • Bring the little ones—in costume, of course—to the Scranton Library on Monday, Oct. 31 at 10 a.m. for an hour of Halloween crafts and stories! Registration is required.
