Lucia di Lammermoor

Opera Theater of Connecticut, the state’s oldest professional opera company, is thrilled to announce that this summer it presents, on its MainStage, one of the most popular operas in the entire repertoire, Lucia di Lammermoor, Donizetti’s gothic tragedy/psychological thriller. The intense drama, fueled by the volatile political conflict between two ancient Scottish clans, develops a chain of events that leads to murder, suicide, and the most spectacular mad scene in opera. The opera will be sung in Italian with projected supertitles to fully appreciate all the dramatic facets of this masterpiece.

As a response to recent seasons’ sold-out performances, Opera Theater of Connecticut will again present four performances of affordable opera in an intimate setting at the air-conditioned Andrews Memorial Theater, 54 East Main Street, Clinton to ensure that no one is turned away for this not-to-be-missed production!

Lucia’s famous sextet is one of the most recognizable and moving ensembles in the opera repertoire and has been referred to in novels, movies, and even used as the centerpiece in a Three Stooges short. Lucia’s famous Mad Scene represents the musical climax of Bel Canto singing, with many of the best-known coloratura sopranos making her their trademark role.

Under the leadership of General Director Kate Ford, Opera Theater of Connecticut’s artistic team of Production Director Alan Mann and Music Director Kyle Swann will work with one of the finest musical and dramatic ensembles brought together in the state for this special presentation.

This stellar opera features a wondrous blend of voices including Amanda Hall making her debut in the title role, David Pershall, last season’s acclaimed Figaro, as her politically-driven brother Enrico, and Luigi Boccia making his Opera Theater of Connecticut debut as the ill-fated lover, Edgardo. Returning to the Andrews Memorial Theater are Daniel Hague as Raimondo and Michael-Paul Krubitzer as Arturo. Making their debuts with Opera Theater of Connecticut are Jorge Prego as Normanno and Karolina Wojteczko as Alicia, all accompanied by Opera Theater of Connecticut’s wonderful orchestra and chorus.
