Eddie Allen Quartet Headlines 2012 Jazz NightOut

Presented by the Arts Center Killingworth February 18, 7:30pm at the Ivoryton Playhouse

The Arts Center Killingworth presents is Annual Jazz NightOut at the Ivoryton Playhouse with headliner and New York master trumpeter Eddie Allen.  Allen, who JazzTimes magazine says “displays wit, charm, and true soul amidst bristling themes,” has performed as a leader on multiple jazz recordings as well as a sideman with musical greats such as Dizzy Gillespie, Etta Jones and Joe Henderson.  The Village Voice calls Allen a “talented trumpeter who offers a blend of chops, intuition and the beauty of brashness.”

JazzNighOut, set in a cafe-style environment with appetizers, wine bar and dessert reception, opens with Connecticut musical prodigy Alma Macbride, a jazz pianist and flautist who displays “stunning maturity and poise at the keyboard.”  Macbride, a winner of the first Jazz at Lincoln Center Mary Lou Williams Competition, has performed with Wynton Marsalis and the JALC Orchestra in NYC.  In addition, she is a member of the Jazz Standard Youth Orchestra, a group consisting of talented young musicians who rehearse and perform at NYC jazz clubs each week.
