Beach Jam For Breast Cancer This Saturday

The event raises funds for cancer patients.

For the 6th year, Free Play, Ct's hottest party band joins forces with the Westbrook's Elks Lodge to raise money for patient care at The Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale New Haven, and the Middlesex Hospital Cancer Center

This fundraiser is different from virtually every other Breast Cancer fundraiser in the fact that we are raising money FOR the patients. Despite the fact that many of those fighting  the battle have insurance, and especially for those who don't have insurance, there are many things not covered. Special apparel for after mastectomies.

Simple comfort items that make the chemo treatments more bearable. Things that let the patient know that there are so many of us out there that care. Reality is that approximately 1 in 8 Ct women will develop breast Cancer in their lifetime. This is the highest rate of incidence in the country. However, thanks to treatment Centers like Smilow and Middlesex, our death rate is is in the lower half. Regardless of these statistics, the fact is, that ALL of us WILL be affected by this terrible disease.

This is why Beach Jam for Breast Cancer came about. When one of Jim Pino's ( Free Play ) friends described to him what she had to go through, Jim and the rest of Free Play decided to do something about it, and hence, Beach Jam for Breast Cancer was born. What started with a rainy saturday event which raised Five Thousand Dollars has turned into one of Connecticut's best attended one day fundraiser. To date, Free Play and the Westbrook Elks have raised just under EIGHTY THOUSAND DOLLARS! Last year's event alone raised Thirty Thousand Dollaes. This year, we hope to raise Forty Thousand, but we cannot do that without your help!

As always, the event will be held at The Westbrook Elks Lodge, 142 Seaside Ave, Westbrook, 06498. Gates open at noon, and the first band takes the stage at 12:45pm, and the party goes on til 9:30ish. Tickets are $25, and can be purchased in advance here.  If you can not make it on Saturday, July 26th, then you can make a donation here.

In addition to the great music, there will be food and "libations" available for purchase at a great prices. Because of this, no coolers, please. We will also have commemorative tee shirts, jello shots, and other memorabilia available as well. All ticket and merchandise sales go directly to Patient Care Services at Smilow Cancer Hospital and Middlesex Cancer Center.
