The Bright Side

...Of Having A Hurricane And Losing Power

On the bright side, there are many benefits to losing power from a Hurricane

  1. The Hurricane Diet – Weight loss, there is not much you can eat without a stove or refrigerator, and even those with a grill focus on protein.
  2. Exercise – raking, moving tree limbs, walking or bike riding to save on gas.
  3. Rest – we went to bed by 10pm each night and woke with the sun – we are well rested.
  4. Game Play – puzzles, board games, time to challenge ourselves a little.
  5. The kids play outside – they are not plugged in, after two days it happened on its own. They were swimming, bike riding, talking with friends.
  6. Bonding – Reconnecting with friends, knowing you have friends to help you out, wanting to know that you are ok, and telling you they care.
  7. Community – knowing you have a community that jumps in to help, a shower at a friend's house, a free meal from town hall, the library for connection, local businesses offering what they can in terms of hot coffee and food.
  8. Reading – ah yes, that wonderful past-time of having the time to pick up a book and read.
  9. Opportunity – to make some money, clean up, lemonade stands.
  10. That eventually the power comes back on and we are grateful for what we have been blessed with!
