More Snow Expected Tuesday, NWS Says

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory from 7 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17 to 6 p.m. Tuesday. Moderate snowfall is expected over the tri-state area starting Monday night into Tuesday. 

Southern Connecticut and northern Long Island are expected to receive two to four inches of snow, on top of the slush, ice, and snow that has already fallen. 

During the snowstorm, visibilities could be reduced to 1/2 mile or less during brief periods Tuesday morning. 

"Snow will develop during the morning rush hour and moderate to locally heavy at times by mid-morning. Snow will taper off to snow showers during the start of the afternoon rush hour," the NWS said Monday afternoon. "Accumulating show will create slippery roadways and hazardous travel conditions, especially on untreated roadways."

The NWS is predicting that the main impact will be between the morning and afternoon commutes. 

"A winter weather advisory means that periods of snow, sleet, or freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for slippery roads and limited visibilities and use caution while driving," the NWS said.  

The CT Department of Motor Vehicles is canceling all road tests Tuesday morning.

the Department of Motor Vehicles is cancelling ALL MORNING ROAD TESTS for Tuesday, December 17. The cancellation is due to expected inclement weather and poor road conditions.

Anyone with a scheduled road test can call DMV to choose a new date. The numbers to call are 860-263-5700 if someone is within the Hartford area and toll-free 800-842-8222 for those outside the Hartford area. DMV is also attempting to contact customers with road test appointments to advise them of the schedule change.
