Celebrate National Poetry Month by Writing a Poem

April is "National Poetry Month" when we celebrate all things poetry by holding workshops and festivals, writing poems, remembering past poets and recognizing new poets. Add your own poem to Patch!

This poem is written by Jack Murphy, 12 years old.

The Sea Adventure

Upon the blue mighty great big sea,

there was a small sailboat the size so wee.

There were three kids, a captain and six different men,

For this boat could only hold up to ten.

When this little boat set sail,

It headed down a crazy dangerous trail.

Down and down it went like a sub,

And it was only in the bath tub.

As you know that all adventures come to a drop,

But you still have next time, and the fun will never stop.

National Poetry month, celebrated each April, was founded in 1996 by the Academy of American Poets to celebrate all things poetry.
