The most important donation you can make is adding your name time to this petition and taking theRead Moreti me to attend this important public hearing. There's absolutely NO FEE to sign the petition. It's very clear that, after signing the petition, there's only an opportunity for anyone who would like to donate to the Hammonasset Environmental Trust, to support the efforts of this wonderful group of concerned residents. It's only through the efforts of concerned residents that anyone even finds out about many important town issues, like this huge proposed propane facility. We cannot rely on Clinton town leaders. We've seen time and again that very serious issues are often not discovered until it's too late and the bad decisions have already been made. I want to thank the Hammonasset Environmental Trust for informing the public and taking a firm stance to protect our shoreline area.

Thank-You DPW & Todd for answering the questions I had about the downtown project. I've beenRead Moreuna ble to keep up with all the construction. It will be very nice when it is done. I'm not much for change but some change is good. To Joan I think you may understand grants better if you do some homework. Learn about them before you make some of your opinions. You are missing the entire concept of grants and where & how they are received. This way it will make allot more sense to you and your husband. It is your opinion but you are so negative about so much you cant even begin to see the good. Your opinions are so misleading to someone like me who isn't always up to date on current events in town.

where is the original story that describes this project?

Joan here you go again. You need to get your facts straight. I for one do not want a paid fireRead Moredepar tment. You complain about your taxes now. Get the facts! Find out how much the town will have to pay for a paid department. The town will have to pay for the entire 24 hours a day 7 days a week cost. Uniforms, Wages, Medical Insurance, Education and YES JOAN Their PENSION. Not to mention most paid fire departments are also union. Ask your husband about that added cost and long term obligation. Those who retire WILL get a pension and long term benefits. Yes some of the Town Highway workers do respond to EMERGENCY calls during the day. Before Ponds moved they also let workers respond and other town businesses that employ fire department members also let them respond. You would think that you would like this small town concept. These men have allot of other responsibilities to the local fire department in order to be active members. The continued education, meetings, drills, calls, sleepless nights. They leave their families to help others in need 24/7. So they get a tax break. What is that. Less than $4. a day depending on if they are a home owner. For those that are not it is a little as $0. a day for their volunteer service. They are on call 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Maybe this would be a great place for you and your husband to volunteer your service to your town and to get that tax break you could use. I hope they do get a pension. They deserve it. Again Joan what will that be $1. a day for 25 years of unselfish Volunteer Service. Thank you Clinton Town Highway Workers! Thank you Clinton Volunteer Fire Department!

Sandy, Just where did I say that I don't support our fire & ambulance departments. My husbandRead More& amp; I have always sent checks to both, to help them out. We know what it takes to run these departments for training, equipment, drills etc. My husband was a volunteer years ago for the town of Deep River fire dept., We know how much these people give of their time and put their lives on the line for us everyday. I can't count the people that I know in this town, that have chose not to send money to them, because they said that they volunteer, which means they do this of their own free will or to give freely of their time, so it's a free service the town offers. They don't realize what it takes to run these departments. This is why I came out with the remark, that maybe we should have a paid fire dept., so everyone pays their share. I have never been against the $1000.00 tax exempt. tat they receive. My only qualm is the fact that some of the older volunteer members that work for the town Highway dept. will already be paid pensions from the town. You Know, you bring my husband into this, and knocking him about his pension. Yes, he worked in construction most of his life, but for 34 years of it, he paid into his pension. Every time he got a raise, the union took a portion for his pension, health & welfare and office work. He had to work for whatever he got. they took $5.78 out of every hr. that he worked to pay for this. He has seen in the 34 yrs. in construction, how the state has wasted money. He was on the paving job up on I-84 when they had the catch basins with no pipes installed, that we taxpayers had to pay for all over again, guardrails ripped out and replaced, because they were rusty, roads paved, that didn't need it, all because some big shot lived there or had to travel them everyday, and asphalt brought back to the plant and dumped, because too much was ordered. I have heard my friends and neighbors complain about all these things that I have mentioned. This is how I find out about all the things going on in town. I told them that they should go to the meeting, let people know what's going on in town, but all I hear is, "Oh, I don't want anyone or the town to come back at me. Well, I may be a woman, but I guess I'm the only one with the BALLS to let people know what others are afraid of saying. So I guess I'm just the messenger. So to speak, but that's okay I have broad shoulders and I can go to bed at night, knowing I don't owe anyone anything.
