What's happening with the wastewater treatment issues in town you ask?

Now is your chance to ask questions and receive an update on what the town's Water Pollution Control Commission (WPCC) is doing.

The WPCC is holding a public information meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 15, at 7pm at Andrews Memorial Town Hall, Green Room (downstairs), 7:00pm.

The purpose of the meeting is to update the community on the commission's current work.

WPCC chair Mike MacDonald said the topics to be discussed at the meeting include the following:

On-Site Wastewater Management Ordinance:

The WPCC established a septic tank pump-out ordinance last year that is now being administered. 

Facilities Master Plan:

Previous Clinton WPCC commissions have worked on the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP)-required Master Plan, intended to summarize the specific areas of concern for water pollution.  The last update to this incomplete report was in 2003.  CDM/Smith (engineering consulting firm) is working to complete that document so the committee will have a more accurate estimate of the problem in terms of the volume of wastewater that is not being properly discharged and the location of the sources. 

CT DEEP Consent Order:

In 1997 the State ordered Clinton to address the water pollution issues (referenced above).  The current WPCC has been working with CDM/Smith engineers to respond to the order. Technical issues will be summarized as will the strategies to solve them.

A presentation to be scheduled for this August will outline the specific solutions that are currently in design and identify specific properties targeted for these systems, the nature of the systems, and a projected cost.

Clinton WPCC Priorities:

The WPCC is working as a team of volunteer citizens to respond to the State’s consent order and other water pollution concerns in town.  They will discuss the town's priorities and those of citizens that attend as they work to shape a proper solution for the community.  At some point in the future, members of the WPCC will ask Town officials to move forward on a referendum vote to fund their share of the project expense.
