Public Hearing On Proposed Tattoo Services Tonight [With Poll]
The application for tattoo services in town generated a lot of comments on Patch - but will it bring people out to speak at a public hearing?
A public hearing will be held by the town's Planning & Zoning Commission (PZC) tonight at 7pm at Andrews Memorial Town Hall regarding the application for tattoo services.
This is a continuation of an existing public hearing. The hearing will take place downstairs, in the green room at town hall.
The application is by Clinton business owners Edward and Lisa Alberino, who own Alberino's Barber Shop and Alberino's Women's Salon at 235 East Main Street. They have applied to the PZC to add a new service, tattoo services, to their existing business.
In order to provide the service, the Alberino's must be granted a special exception permit for a tattoo parlor by the PZC.
A public hearing was held in January and continued to Feb. 6 due to awaiting information from the regional health department
Lisa Alberino explained that many of her hair salon clients, as well as barbershop customers and others have asked why she doesn't offer tattoo services. Alberino said if granted the application, the tattoo services would be available in a separate, private room down the hall from the barber shop. They would not advertise the services.
"It would be clean, safe and professional," she said.
Several residents spoke out against the application at the first public hearing. An article on the Clinton Patch generated more than 87 comments as did a Facebook article.

Wishing I could attend tonight to support the tattoo parlor, but I have to work. I hope it's a good turnout!

All this over a tattoo parlor? My father who grew up in Clinton told me that the old Clinton hotel (now torn down many years ago) was also a Whore house where his cousin was caught. The Clinton hotel was across the parking lot from the CVS.

I'll give one reason why this is a bad idea. If a special exception is granted, it will not expire when the current owners leave the business.

I think it was a great turnout for those for and against... although those in favor far outweighed those in opposition, and the opposition actually was a little more rude, crude, & socially unacceptable than the social degenerate tattooed supporters, what with speaking out of turn and speaking down to a nice older woman who had the floor...

This request has to be decided on the zoning regulation. Not on the popularity or unpopularity of the applicant or tatoo parlors in general. My guess, it will be approved with conditions. Except for one exchange, everyone was respectful. Good show.
