Sandy continues to move northeastward and is projected to make landfall in New Jersey sometime around 2am on Tuesday. We will begin to experience stronger winds as we move through the afternoon and into tonight.

A great concern is water rise. High this morning is at 11:18 and again at 11:48 tonight. The tide tonight could be as much as 11 feet above normal.

Residents south of route 1 should evacuate. Water this high will actually impact areas all the way up Commerce and Grove Streets up to Route 1. If you have a place to go you should leave now or as a last resort go to our shelter.

Starting at 12 noon today, the shelter will be at the Jared Eliot Middle school on Fairy Dell Road. Remember to bring medications, special dietary needs, books, games and anything of importance.

Please leave now before it becomes impossible to do so. Our operations center is open and can be reached by calling 860-669-0451. Town Offices are closing at 12pm and we do not have a schedule when they will re-open.

Also, as of 1:00pm the State is closing all highways to vehicular traffic. Another update will be issued at 1:00PM.
