"Madison Police Driving Away Local Business Dollars"

"Good Luck At Christmas" Says This Consumer

This letter was written by Valentina DaCosta of Clinton.

I was recently issued a ticket for exceeding a two hour parking limit in the Madison town center.  Because the parking restriction was not clearly marked and this is a new push from the Madison businesses to limit parking on Rt 1, I find myself with a $20 ticket, despite patronizing a Madison salon for a very expensive hair treatment exceeding $200.00.  This treatment takes approximately three hours to complete.

I appealed my ticket and was told that the signs are clearly marked (check out Google Earth Maps, they are NOT).

When he told me my appeal was denied I said my dollars might be better spent in Guilford or Clinton and he said that he suggested I do so.  In this stunted economy I would think the Madison Chamber would not want to scare away paying clients.  The unlimited parking is some distance away and can be tough for a person with disabilities.

Thank you Madison for letting me know that my dollars are unwanted - good luck at Christmas!

Valentina DaCosta
